New Ethanol Plant Means New Business for Westland-Based Railroad Company

WESTLAND, Mich., Sept. 8, 2005 (PRIMEZONE) -- The 2006 planned opening of an ethanol, alternative fuel plant in Riga Township, near Blissfield, located off US 23 south of Ann Arbor and north of Toledo, will result in an additional 15-20 rail cars per day for the Adrian & Blissfield Rail Road, headquartered here.

According the Mark Dobronski, Adrian & Blissfield president, the $85 million plant will initially produce 57 million gallons of ethanol, the corn-based alternative fuel for vehicles. Adrian & Blissfield is prepared to move this ethanol, along with carbon dioxide, which is used in the production of cola soft drinks, and dried distilled grains, which are used as cattle feed.

"We are pleased to be part of this endeavor, which will benefit Michigan farmers and also help ease the demand for gasoline, which has been skyrocketing in price at the fuel pump," Dobronski said.

With its corporate headquarters in Westland, Mich., just outside of Detroit, the Adrian & Blissfield Rail Road Company consists of the parent company and four rail operating companies in Michigan. The Adrian & Blissfield provides freight service in Lenawee County plus The Old Road Dinner Train in Blissfield (Mich.). The Charlotte Southern Railroad Company provides freight service in Eaton County plus The Old Road Dinner Train in Charlotte (Mich.). The Detroit Connecting Railroad Company provides freight service in Eastern Wayne County and the Lapeer Industrial Railroad Company provides freight service in Lapeer County.
