DETROIT, Sept. 9, 2005 (PRIMEZONE) -- Marygrove College will hold its annual Distinguished Alumni Awards ceremony on Friday, September 16 at 7:00 p.m. The program, which is open to the public, will take place in the Marygrove Theater, 8425 W. McNichols Road, Detroit. A reception will immediately follow the ceremony.
The Marygrove College Distinguished Alumni Awards were established in 2002 to recognize and honor alumni of distinction. These awards celebrate Marygrove's ideals of competence, commitment and compassion. The 2005 recipients are: Edee LaFramboise Joppich '53; Nettie Harris Seabrooks '55; Mary Anderson Walker '56; Rosemary DeLaurentiis Blaszkiewicz '62; Lorraine Lubawy Ozar '68; Kathleen Pendergast Kaiser '70; and Jacqueline Woods '97.
Edee LaFramboise Joppich is a noted watercolorist, collage artist and frequent art exhibit judge who runs two popular Campedee residential art programs at Lake Leelenau. Nettie Harris Seabrooks is the Chief Operating Officer of The Detroit Institute of Arts following a successful career at General Motors and with the administration of Detroit Mayor Dennis Archer. Mary Anderson Walker, volunteer extraordinaire, has served as a Hospice patient volunteer, new volunteer trainer, board member and in-service coordinator in addition to her volunteer work on the environment. Rosemary DeLaurentiis Blaszkiewiecz has made her life's work the teaching of the blind and helping their families. Dr. Lorraine Lubawy Ozar, a nationally known scholar in Catholic school curriculum and instruction, is the founding director of the Center for Catholic School Effectiveness at Loyola University. Kathleen Pendergast Kaiser, a licensed social worker, has been a community organizer devoted to improving funding for education in the State of Illinois. Jacqueline Woods has found ways to create unique corporate/nonprofit partnerships that help to raise awareness and funds for the nonprofit as well as found her own nonprofit organization, Young Minority Golfers Association.
Marygrove College is an independent private liberal arts college sponsored by the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary (IHM) in a unique, diverse urban setting. Situated on 53 acres of land in one of Detroit's finest neighborhoods, more than 1,200 students attend classes in its undergraduate and graduate programs in education, business, human resource management, social justice, social work, science, theater, music and the arts.
