Emulex to Supply the InSpeed Embedded Storage Switch for Family of HP StorageWorks Enterprise Virtual Arrays

New Design Win Completes Embedded Root Switch Implementation Across all HP EVA Models

COSTA MESA, Calif., Sept. 13, 2005 (PRIMEZONE) -- Emulex Corporation (NYSE:ELX), the industry's preeminent provider of advanced storage networking infrastructure solutions, today announced that it will provide HP with a customized version of its award-winning and field-proven InSpeed Model 350 Embedded Storage Switch for the next generation of the HP StorageWorks Enterprise Virtual Array (EVA) family: the HP StorageWorks EVA8000, EVA6000 and EVA4000.

Having been designed into the prior generation StorageWorks EVA5000, the InSpeed Model 350 Embedded Storage Switch provides IT administrators with additional features and functionality that improve and enhance storage array reliability and performance. In addition, advanced diagnostics, performance monitoring and fault isolation ensure maximum storage system availability. Now, these benefits will be offered across the new generation of StorageWorks EVAs.

"Emulex's InSpeed technology is the storage industry's leading embedded solution for creating switched back-end architectures in enterprise storage systems," said Mike Smith, executive vice president of worldwide marketing for Emulex. "HP was one of the first storage providers to implement InSpeed, and the extension of their use across the new EVAs reinforces both the effectiveness of the technology and the depth of our longstanding relationship with HP."

When implemented in a root switch configuration, the InSpeed Model 350 Embedded Storage Switch provides switching at the disk drive enclosure level within storage systems. The Emulex InSpeed Root Switches improve performance as well as reliability, availability and serviceability (RAS) by allowing for dynamic addition or removal of disk drive enclosures while the EVA is active. The switches are included as standard within the HP StorageWorks EVA8000 and EVA6000, and optional within the EVA4000.

"Integrating the InSpeed Embedded Storage Switches into our new EVAs provides our customers with superior reliability, availability and serviceability and enables a seamless migration and investment protection for existing EVA customers," said Kyle Fitze, SAN marketing director, StorageWorks Division, HP. "Working with Emulex to integrate its embedded storage switching solutions into our EVA family underscores HP's commitment to deliver the industry's leading storage systems."
