SimpleTech Announces First Solid State Drive with Dual Interface; Zeus Dual Interface SSDs Combine SATA and USB on One Drive

New Flash-Based SSD Offers Optimal Application Flexibility, Enabling the Use of One Storage Drive in Both Airborne and Ground-Based Systems

LONDON, Sept. 13, 2005 (PRIMEZONE) -- Defence Systems and Equipment International (DSEi) -- SimpleTech, Inc.(r) (Nasdaq:STEC), a designer, manufacturer and marketer of custom and open-standard memory and storage solutions, today announced the industry's first solid state drive (SSD) with SATA and USB interfaces on one drive. The Zeus Dual Interface SSD is the only available Flash drive that allows users to easily remove a single SSD from one system and use it in a second system with different interface requirements. This makes it an optimal solution for applications that require that the SSD have a high-speed SATA interface for digital mission data storage in a combat system and an industry standard USB interface for direct connection to a debriefing station or other PC. SimpleTech will demonstrate the new Zeus Dual Interface Solid State Drive at the Defence Systems and Equipment International (DSEi) Exhibition and Conference September 13-16, 2005 at ExCel in London (US Pavilion, booth number 126).

"As solid state drives proliferate, our customers are looking for more flexible and robust products that are compatible with a myriad of systems," said Patrick Wilkison, vice president of marketing and business development at SimpleTech. "Our progressive design effort for the Zeus SSD product line reflects our continued commitment to meeting the evolving needs of our customers and leading the market through proactive product development."

Since Zeus Dual Interface SSDs offer both SATA and USB connectivity, customers can work with an SSD design that is extremely flexible and optimized for use as a removable mass memory storage device. The product removes complexity from the design of host applications by eliminating the need to design interface adapters for the SSD.

All standard Zeus Dual Interface SSDs have fixed case dimensions: a 3.5-inch footprint and a 9.5 mm case height. With standard configurations ranging from 12 to 192 GB, and with a variety of data throughputs, the new Zeus SSD allows for easy expansion and upgrades while keeping fixed form, fit and function. This increases the longevity of the design and eliminates the need for costly redesigns when storage or performance requirements change.

The Zeus SSD is an ideal data recorder storage medium. The high speed SATA interface is perfect for loading and recording mission data in a combat system. The Zeus SSD allows for multiple channels of recording and playback, including video, radar, and other sensor data. The Zeus SSD can also interface directly to a debriefing station via a standard USB interface, making it an easy and effective tool for the transfer and review of mission data.

Zeus Dual Interface SSDs have sustained read/write rates of 60 MBytes per second and utilize the company's patented stacking technology to measure just 9.5 mm in height. Zeus SSDs are MIL-STD-810F compliant, and offer patented purge features. All Zeus products are made in the United States at SimpleTech's ISO 9001:2000 certified manufacturing facility.

Applications

Zeus SSDs are ideal for a variety of applications including mission data recorders, image exploitation computers, navigation systems, wearable computers, rugged laptops, telecom switches, and blade servers.

Reliability and Endurance

The Zeus SSD's design combines low power consumption with the highest storage density (GB per cubic centimeter) available in a SSD solution. SimpleTech's patent-pending wear-leveling and bad-block management algorithms ensure the consistency, accuracy and integrity of data.

With no moving parts, Zeus SSDs eliminate the electromechanical noise and delay inherent in traditional rotating media. The drives have unlimited read cycles, 2 million write cycles, 10-year data retention, and are enclosed in an impact-resistant aluminum alloy case.

Security

SimpleTech Zeus SSDs incorporate cutting-edge security features that comply with the most rigorous security standards established by the Department of Defense (DoD 5220.22-M), National Security Agency (NSA 130-2), Air Force (AFSSI 5020), Army (AR 380-19), and Navy (Navso 5239). Advanced security features include BasicPurge(tm), RapidPurge(tm), MilPurge(tm), and Intelligent Destructive Purge(tm), as well as custom-tailored solutions, offering customers a range of options to choose from depending on their requirements.

Service and Warranty

SimpleTech ensures long-term product availability and non-obsolescence. All Zeus SSDs carry a standard seven year warranty. Extended warranties are also available.
