REDONDO BEACH, Calif., Sept. 15, 2005 (PRIMEZONE) -- A "drive-through" fundraiser for Hurricane Katrina victims held at Northrop Grumman Corporation's Space Park campus Sept. 9 collected more than $103,000 for American Red Cross relief efforts, the company announced today.
"I would like to take this opportunity to thank the South Bay community and Northrop Grumman employees for opening their hearts to those affected by Hurricane Katrina," said Alexis Livanos, president of the company's Space Technology sector, which hosted the fundraiser. "The donations were very generous - from the children who dropped off the proceeds from their lemonade stands, to the gardeners working nearby who donated their lunch money, to the local homeowner who decided that homes on the Gulf Coast needed repair much worse than his own fence."
The fundraiser, on behalf of the American Red Cross of Greater Los Angeles, allowed motorists to make donations from their cars as they drove through a section of the company's campus at Marine Avenue and Aviation Boulevard. Company employees organized and staffed the event as volunteers.
