Microsemi Introduces Next Generation 15 Watts-Per-Channel Stereo Class-D Amplifier

-- Targets LCD TV, Home Theaters
-- Can power 30 watts in monaural mode
-- Low distortion, high signal-to-noise ratio

IRVINE, Calif., Sept. 20, 2005 (PRIMEZONE) -- Microsemi Corporation (Nasdaq:MSCC), a leading manufacturer of high performance analog/mixed signal integrated circuits, has announced a next-generation class-D audio amplifier in a fully integrated design that supports high fidelity stereo sound reproduction up to 15 watts per channel, or a single channel up to 30 watts.

Designated the LX(TM)1725, Microsemi's new amplifier is targeted at LCD TV, CD/DVD players, home theater systems, game machines and computer speaker applications.

"The LX1725's specs are outstanding," noted Paul Bibeau, Sr. Vice President and General Manager of Microsemi's Integrated Products Group. "Into 8 Ohm speakers, its distortion is less than 0.1% at 1 kilohertz, its signal-to-noise ratio is greater than 85 dB, and its audio fidelity covers the full 20Hz to 20KHz bandwidth," he said.

Designed with a half-bridge output for each channel, the LX1725 works with both split and single power supply operation. The outputs can run in a monaural bridge-tied load (BTL) mode that is filterless, reducing system cost and space.

Typical of class-D amplifiers, the LX1725 produces little heat, operating at greater than 90% efficiency, while its quiescent current consumption is less than 20 milliamps. It can operate from a wide supply voltage range: 6V to 15V in split supply, or 12V to 30V from a single supply.

Other features integrated into the LX1725's design include mute and standby modes; "pop-free" turn-on and turn-off; over-current, over-voltage, and over-temperature protection; and under-voltage lockout. All the built-in protection modes allow automatic recovery when the fault condition has been cleared. Multiple LX1725 amplifiers are easily synchronized together to prevent beat frequency interference in multi-channel applications.

The LX1725's 32-pin MLPQ surface mount plastic package is RoHS compliant, lead-free and measures only 7 millimeters square.

Priced in 10k lot quantities at $3.30, the LX1725 is available for immediate sampling and in pre-production quantities. Complete technical information is available on the Microsemi web site, www.Microsemi.com. Samples can be ordered through this site or from Microsemi sales representatives and franchised distributors.
