Alfa Laval Supplies Vital Equipment for Oil Platform in Brazil

STOCKHOLM, Sweden, Oct. 3, 2005 (PRIMEZONE) -- Alfa Laval - a world leader in heat transfer, centrifugal separation and fluid handling - has received an order for plate heat exchangers for crude oil processing to a value of about SEK 75 million. The order was signed with the contractor QUIP S.A. The end customer is Petrobras, the national oil & gas company in Brazil.

The order comprises some 20 large capacity plate heat exchangers that will form a central part of the crude oil treatment process onboard the Petrobras P-53 floating platform outside the north coast of the Rio de Janeiro state in Brazil. This platform will have a capacity of 180,000 barrels of oil per day and a gas compression capacity of 6 million cubic meters of gas per day. The delivery will take place during 2007 and the platform is expected to be in full production in 2008.

The untreated crude oil is located in wells at a water depth of more than 1,000 meters. It will be pumped to the floating platform where water and gas will be separated from the oil. The plate heat exchangers will be used to heat the untreated crude oil before separation and to cool the treated crude oil as well as the separated water.

Petrobras, the national oil and gas company of Brazil, handles exploration, production and distribution of the country's oil and gas resources. Petrobras operates 93 production platforms, 10 refineries and 7,000 service stations.

Alfa Laval has supplied heat exchangers and other equipment to the majority of Petrobras offshore installations.
