Emulex 4 Gb/s HBAs Qualified for Use With EMC Symmetrix and EMC CLARiiON Systems

Emulex 4 Gb/s FC HBAs with Native PCI Express Interface Pass Rigorous E-Lab Testing by EMC

COSTA MESA, Calif., Oct. 17, 2005 (PRIMEZONE) -- Emulex Corporation (NYSE:ELX), the most trusted name in storage networking connectivity, today announced the Emulex 4Gb/s PCI Express and PCI-X 2.0 Fibre Channel (FC) host bus adapters (HBAs) are qualified for use with EMC(r) Symmetrix(r) and EMC CLARiiON(r) networked storage solutions. The EMC E-Lab(tm) Tested qualification ensures that the two companies' products work together seamlessly and pave the way for migration to the next generation of SAN connectivity speeds. This design win also highlights Emulex's continued leverage of native PCI Express architecture for 4 Gb/s storage solutions.

"EMC's qualification of our 4 Gb/s HBA products underscores Emulex's strong leadership position and commitment to bringing next-generation storage networking connectivity solutions to customers," said Mike Smith, executive vice president of worldwide marketing for Emulex. "By offering 4 Gb/s solutions that leverage a native PCI Express architecture, Emulex is helping EMC to create a seamless migration path for its customers' future data requirements."

Emulex's 4 Gb/s solutions provide EMC customers with the ability to easily and reliably connect servers to 4 Gb/s SAN architectures.

For Windows solutions, Emulex HBAs utilize both the Microsoft Storport Miniport and SCSIport Miniport drivers. Emulex's new 4 Gb/s HBAs provide customers with the ability to double the speed of today's 2 Gb/s storage networks. The flexible Emulex hardware-independent architecture enables use of a common HBA driver across generations, ensuring backward compatibility with the large installed base of Emulex HBAs.

"EMC's goal is to provide its customers with the most effective technologies to manage and extend their storage systems," said Tom Joyce, EMC's Vice President of Storage Platforms Marketing. "The Emulex's 4 Gb/s technology will help our customers address expanding storage capacity and data growth demands with increased levels of speed and manageability."
