Media Advisory -- SDG&E Advises Customers to Inspect Furnaces, Re-Light Pilots Before First Major Cold Snap

SAN DIEGO, Oct. 18, 2005 (PRIMEZONE) -- With the arrival of fall and projections for record-high winter heating bills nationwide, San Diego Gas & Electric (SDG&E) is advising customers to inspect their home-heating appliances and perform any needed maintenance to help ensure safe and energy-efficient operation.

An SDG&E service technician will perform a safety check of a furnace at a customer's home, which will include lighting the pilot, inspecting the burner flame, and checking the venting. Conservation tips will be offered to help customers lower their winter heating bills.

To help ensure prompt scheduling of service and increase the efficiency of appliances, SDG&E is urging customers to call now to have furnace pilot lights lit and furnaces inspected. Proper maintenance of home furnaces can help prevent production of carbon monoxide, a colorless, odorless and toxic gas, and help keep winter gas bills lower.
