A Timeless Story for Young Readers -- New Picture Book Illustrates Moral Lesson on Greed

DURHAM, N.C., Oct. 31, 2005 (PRIMEZONE) -- Being greedy is never a good thing for it is important to share and maintain balance among ourselves. Aside from that, greed only causes more harm than good. This is the theme which author Bakeh N. Wleh Nagbe, Sr., wishes to share with young readers through his new picture book Greedy Spider.

Set in Nyantro, Liberia, Greedy Spider is the tale of Sakontant, a spider who has deep pride for her web weaving, her silk house, and her standing among other animals in the forest. Sakontant is also greedy for many things and one day she received not only one but four different invitations from her neighbors to join them for the Thanksgiving feast. Excited and proud from the core, the greedy spider separately told her neighbors to call her when the feast is ready and while waiting she spun more web decorating her place thinking she will eventually enjoy the kindness and the food from her friends later. Will the spider get away with her greed or will she stumble for it? Only time can tell.

Creative and diligently-written with the children in mind, Greedy Spider is a moral and entertaining tale that has lasted for more than seven hundred years through the author's family. With its story, characters, and lively images, this book is bound to be a hit with all children ages 4 to 12 years old or younger, as well as with parents and teachers who intend to entertain and educate their kids as well as providing them a hands-on reading experience. No doubt about it, Greedy Spider is highly recommended and it's available at your favorite bookstores and libraries today!

About the Author

Born in Liberia, Bakeh N. Wleh Nagbe, Sr., can remember hearing the Greedy Spider story first around the fire, then years later around a lantern. "The story is set in Nyantro, a small village on a rolling hill 55 miles outside Greenville, Sinoe County, Liberia. My grandfather has told and retold this story to me and the children of Nyantro. It was passed on to him after being handed down more than 700 years," says Nagbe. Greedy Spider is the first in a series of four books. Bakeh now resides in Durham County, North Carolina, and continues to work on his manuscripts. He has also attended North Carolina Central University, where he is working toward a double degree in history and political science.
