Northrop Grumman Wins Contract to Supply Navigation Systems For Canadian Navy


CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. -- Nov. 17, 2005 -- Northrop Grumman Corporation (NYSE:NOC) has won a contract to supply navigation distribution systems for three Canadian Navy Iroquois-class destroyers.

The firm, fixed-price contract, valued at $4.9 million, was awarded to Northrop Grumman's Sperry Marine business unit. The navigation distribution system integrates data inputs and outputs provided by the Sperry Marine MK49 ship's inertial navigation systems (SINS) and other navigation sensors. Installations are scheduled to begin in November 2006.

Sperry Marine is also supplying similar integrated MK49 and navigation distribution system packages for Canada's Victoria-class submarines under a contract received in 2004.

The MK49 SINS, based on Sperry Marine's unique ring-laser gyro technology, provides highly accurate position, attitude, velocity and heading inputs to the ships' navigation and fire-control systems to ensure stabilized weapons initialization under all sea conditions.

Sperry Marine is a world leader in ring-laser gyro technology, having supplied more than 80 percent of the systems at sea today. The MK49 is the standard ring-laser gyro equipment used on NATO ships.
