RESTON, Va., Nov. 28, 2005 (PRIMEZONE) -- The Defense Information Systems Agency (DISA) has selected Northrop Grumman Corporation (NYSE:NOC) to design, engineer, test and install new video-teleconferencing hubs for networks supporting Department of Defense missions and operations worldwide. Secure video teleconferencing is a critical command-and-control tool for military commanders, providing the information and situational awareness they need to plan, execute and manage military operations.
The DISA Defense Information Technology Contracting Organization awarded the Defense Information Systems Network Video Services II (DVS II) task order under Encore I, which is a seven-year, indefinite delivery/indefinite quantity contract awarded by DISA in 2002.
Under the $51 million, one-year DVS II task order, Northrop Grumman's Mission Systems sector is upgrading DISA's integrated services digital network system with Internet protocol (IP)-based capabilities. The new fully compatible, integrated and secure net-centric system will provide real-time video and audio-conferencing services to DISA and users of the global information grid-bandwidth expansion network.
Northrop Grumman Mission Systems will receive an additional contract option to complete the transition from the current service to the DVS II system.
"This program will provide DISA with a key set of tools to enhance the Department of Defense's net-centric operations capabilities by providing enhanced IP video and new collaboration resources to the warfighters," said Otto Guenther, vice president and general manager of the sector's Tactical Systems Division. "It also brings a new strategic customer to our division and furthers the company's long-term collaboration strategies."
Northrop Grumman Mission Systems is teamed with Northrop Grumman Information Technology, McLean, Va.; Cisco Systems Inc., San Jose, Calif.; AT&T, Bedminster, N.J.; FC Business Systems, Fairfax, Va.; CritiCom, Lanham, Md.; NETCONN Solutions, Hagerstown, Md.; Parsons, Pasadena, Calif.; and Radvision, Fair Lawn, N.J.
