The contribution, which will be used to support the foundation's educational activities, complements more than $2,500 in computer equipment donated by Northrop Grumman to the foundation earlier this year.

Scott J. Seymour, corporate vice president and president of Northrop Grumman's Integrated Systems sector, presented the donation to Stephen Feldman, Ph.D., president of the Astronauts Memorial Foundation, during a brief ceremony in front of the Space Mirror Memorial at the Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex.

"Northrop Grumman salutes the bravery and spirit of discovery that inspired the nation's astronaut heroes to push the boundaries of technology and human endurance in their quest to open space frontiers," said Seymour. "As we embark on developing the next generation of human spaceflight systems, we are inspired by their sacrifices, and will build on their experience to help create a sustained and productive national space exploration program."

In response, Feldman said, "The Astronauts Memorial Foundation once again thanks Northrop Grumman for partnering with us in our effort to honor and memorialize the astronauts who sacrificed their lives for the nation and for the space program." He also acknowledged the participation of Alan Doshier, sector vice president of Northrop Grumman Integrated Systems' Melbourne-based airborne ground surveillance and battle management systems business unit, who is a member of the foundation's board.

The Astronauts Memorial Foundation, founded in the wake of the space shuttle Challenger accident in 1986, honors all U.S. and foreign astronauts who have lost their lives while participating in a U.S. government space mission or related training. Twenty-four astronauts are now honored by the foundation. Through its educational programs, the foundation works to foster an understanding of space exploration and to improve education through technology.
