Two Impressive Naval Destroyers Arrive and Dock at Penn's Landing for Army / Navy Weekend

Ships visit the Philadelphia Waterfront for the 106th edition of the interservice rivalry, and the 79th game to be played in Philadelphia

              USS THE SULLIVANS- CG-66 (9 a.m.)
              USS McFAUL- DDG-72 (11 a.m.)

 WHERE:       The Great Plaza at Penn's Landing
              Market Street and Columbus Boulevard
              Philadelphia, PA

 WHAT:        Philadelphia gets a special opportunity for an
              up-close look at two of the U.S. Navy's most
              impressive ships.  The USS The Sullivans- DDG-68,
              and USS McFaul- DDG-74, both naval destroyers, will
              be docked on the Delaware River for the big game.

              The Ships will be open for FREE public tours Saturday
              from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. and Sunday from 10 a.m.-4 p.m.
              (weather permitting).

 BACKGROUND:  The McFAUL is a guided Missile Destroyer named to
              honor Chief Petty Officer Donald L. McFaul for
              extraordinary heroism in action under fire. The McFaul
              is assigned to the US Atlantic Fleet and homeported in
              Portsmouth, VA.

              THE SULLIVANS is an Arliegh Burke Class Destroyer and
              named to honor five brothers from Waterloo, IA who
              served together on the USS JUNEAU during World War II.
              All five brothers lost their lives during the Battle of
              Guadalcanal on November 13, 1942. The motto of the ship,
              honoring the five Sullivan brothers, is "We Stick
              Together." Homeported in Mayport, Florida, The
              Sullivans currently serves in the Atlantic Fleet.

Following a national bid process to host the Army/Navy Game, the United States Naval Academy (USNA) and the United States Military Academy (USMA) awarded five of six Army/Navy Games to Philadelphia in April 2003, maintaining the city's position as the home of the Army/Navy Game. The Army/Navy Game will be held in Philadelphia in 2004, 2005, 2006, 2008 and 2009, in addition to this year's game.
