The Timeless Boundaries of Forbidden Love -- New Novel Tells Story of Friends, Lovers and the Agony That Comes With Relationships

BURLINGTON, Ontario, December 6, 2005 (PRIMEZONE) -- Love, with all its ups and downs, takes on many levels of meaning for two friends in wartime Canada in Bev Murray's new novel, Her Own Corner (now available through AuthorHouse).

Monique Levesque is a free spirit whose willfulness leads her to have a child out of wedlock. A near disaster jolts her into giving him up for adoption, a decision she will regret for the rest of her life. Her friend Janine, by contrast, is the ultimate conformist who, in due course, marries Rob Flaherty and bears his child. When Rob is sent overseas, she becomes deeply attracted to Monique's friend Ken Elliott, and soon discovers that following the rules does not guarantee an uncluttered life.

Ken is also shipped overseas, where he is injured in Dieppe and returned home with an honorable discharge. Janine, with no word from Rob for months, is left to wrestle with the torrent of emotion that is so often a constant companion to those left on the home front. Monique, by now a long-lapsed Catholic, finds herself hopelessly in love with Father Matthew Diemert, a young parish priest. No stranger to tempting fate, Monique invites the young clergyman to meet her for coffee. He agrees, against his better judgment, and soon stands at the crossroads of a life-altering decision.

"This story... tells the timeless story of forbidden love and how easily it can creep up on the players," says Murray. "More importantly, it relays the relatively untold story of the agony a dedicated priest is faced with when caught up between the deep and abiding, but unplanned, love for a woman, and [what to do] when this love is reciprocated."

Anyone who appreciates a heartfelt love story will find Her Own Corner to be a satisfying read.

Murray lives in Burlington, Ontario, with her husband Tom and daughter Mary. The author also has three married children. Murray was first encouraged to write by her high school English teachers. On a whim, she sat down one day a few years ago with no outline, no plan, just the desire to tell a story. What resulted is Her Own Corner, Murray's first book. She is currently working on a sequel.
