AssistMed Acquires Canadian Electronic Health Records Organization

LOS ANGELES, Dec. 12, 2005 (PRIMEZONE) -- AssistMed, Inc. today announced it has completed the acquisition of AssistMed Canada, Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of Toronto-based Cogient Corporation, in a cash and stock transaction. Terms were not disclosed.

"The acquisition complements our extensive suite of clinical-documentation solutions and greatly enhances AssistMed's presence in North America with an existing base of customers in Canada. The inclusion of Cogient's powerful and physician-friendly online electronic health records system firmly establishes our organization's position as the leading provider of total solutions for clinical documentation and supportive electronic health record-related applications. We now offer a full-spectrum of software and service applications to meet the requirements of individual healthcare practitioners -- providing an affordable pay-per-use model and unique support for government initiatives to deploy patient-centric Community Electronic Health Records," said Leonardo Berezovsky, M.D., chairman and chief executive officer of AssistMed, Inc.

He noted that the acquisition also provides a Toronto data center, additional professional development staff, and a corporate office in this region. "With the addition of these new systems and resources, healthcare professionals will benefit from systems that offer a technical edge to address an increasingly interconnected healthcare system, while minimizing operational expenses," Berezovsky added.
