The Gas Company Offers Energy-Efficiency Rebates to Help Customers Save Money

LOS ANGELES, Dec. 20, 2005 (PRIMEZONE) -- With the increased use of natural gas for heating as winter approaches, Southern California Gas Company (The Gas Company) is offering customers hundreds of dollars in rebates for the purchase of energy-efficient appliances.

By selecting high-efficiency appliances and other qualifying products, customers can receive rebates of $200 for furnaces, up to $75 for clothes washers, $30 for water heaters, $30 for dishwashers, and 15 cents per square foot on wall or attic insulation.

"The savings start with purchase rebates but don't end there," said Michelle Mueller, vice president of customer service for The Gas Company. "Customers continue to save as their energy-efficient appliances use less natural gas over time."

The rebates are available through the end of this year and are subject to change in 2006. More information about which appliances qualify and 2006 energy rebate programs are available online at www.socalgas.com .

"We want customers to see energy efficiency as the best way to take control over their energy costs," Mueller said. "It's an important response to the higher cost of natural gas, which has increased nationwide."

Energy efficiency also improves the environment and conserves precious natural resources, Mueller added.

The Gas Company is the nation's largest natural gas distribution utility, providing safe and reliable energy to 19.5 million consumers through 5.5 million meters. The company's service territory encompasses approximately 20,000 square miles in most of central and Southern California.
