California Procrastinators Can Comply Online with AB 1825

AUSTIN, Texas, Dec. 20, 2005 (PRIMEZONE) -- California's newly passed bill A.B. 1825 requires every company employing 50 people or more to give sexual harassment prevention training to all supervisors by January of 2006. No doubt business owners and contractors who haven't yet complied feel that date creeping closer and closer every day.

Not only does the bill require any supervisor hired on or before July 1, 2005 to be trained, but any supervisor hired after that date going forward must be trained within six months of hire or promotion. Either way, the clock is ticking.

Although there are currently no explicit penalties for employers who don't comply, the implied penalties could easily manifest themselves elsewhere. One could argue in civil court that an employer did not take all necessary steps to prevent a sexually hostile work environment.

However, online training is an easy solution employers can explore in order to comply to the law quickly.

A.B. 1825 states that online learning is allowed as long as the following criteria are met: course content is created by a qualified instructional designer, the program incorporates learner participation every 15 minutes, the course provides opportunities for learner feedback and allows the learner to ask questions and have them answered.

Online training is a relatively new solution that employers and corporations are using more and more. It's also seen as a particularly attractive alternative to those who keep odd hours. Training that's available at any hour has proven to be very convenient to those in the hospitality industry for example.

Possibly the best news is that employers can start training their supervisors immediately and company-wide, corporate solutions can be implemented within an hour.

"If they're serious about getting started, we can have their people ready to go in less than an hour, but we've done it as quickly as 20 minutes," said account manager for 360training, Jason McGoron.
