Houston Association for Women in Computing Member Hand-picked for National Presidential Position


HOUSTON, Dec. 22, 2005 (PRIMEZONE) -- The Association of Women in Computing Houston Chapter announced today that Mary Crowe has been elected National President of the Association of Women in Computing (AWC). Crowe will provide new leadership to AWC, a non-profit professional organization for women and men who have an interest in information and technology. The Association is dedicated to the advancement of women in the technology fields.

Crowe works as a project manager in the IT department of Retriever Payment Systems -- Houston TX -- a financial services company. She has been a member of AWC-Houston Chapter for ten years, serving on the board for eight of those years in different offices including president. Crowe was a member of the 1998 AWC Houston Board that initiated the AWC Houston Annual Gala, which through its Leadership in Technology awards, seeks to recognize women's achievements throughout the Houston area. In addition, the Gala awards one or more scholarships to outstanding students pursuing an undergraduate degree in a computer-related field. The Top Houston Women in Technology Gala since inception has more than tripled in attendance, increased sponsorships by over 70% and has awarded over $60,000 in scholarships. Crowe was the AWC-Houston Woman of Excellence for the Federation of Houston Professional Women in 2001.

Crowe's project management experience spans a wide variety of projects including training, IT conversions, networking, documentation, and acquisitions. She has managed projects for over 25 years and is certified as a Project Management Professional.

Crowe also volunteers as the communications chair at her church. She is married with a son in high school.
