Go Beyond Mankind's Limited Conception -- New Book Redefines Psychology and Human Potential

ARLINGTON, Mass., Dec. 29, 2005 (PRIMEZONE) -- Since its inception (around 1900 in America) the discipline of psychology has consistently focused on people's connection with their animal ancestry, explaining who we are from that perspective, while ignoring or dismissing the existence of a spiritual dimension. Don't we need to consider both of these influences and realize that the one which we are evolving toward is the spiritual? Isn't this our calling as a species? Don't we need to know this in order to consciously participate in the evolutionary flow (the mystery of which most of us haven't experienced and thus can't really "know")? Don't we need to know this? These questions and topics are tackled by author Dr. Neal Klein in his highly intelligent and compelling book "A New Operating Manual for Being Human: A Humanistic/Holistic Perspective on Counseling Psychology and Personal Growth."

Intelligently and philosophically written, "A New Operating Manual for Being Human" provides the field of psychology with a much-needed theoretical base that is anchored in the new insights coming from humanistic/holistic research, which is often called "the third force," and is distinct from psychoanalysis and behaviorism, the two previous dominant psychological forces in America. Unlike psychoanalysis, which believes that at our core we have animal instincts, and behaviorism, which postulates that we come into this world as blank slates, holistic psychology acknowledges that at our core there is an essence, an inner nature that provides guidance, aliveness and a sense of meaning in life. The book explores a wide range of topics, including the socially constructive nature of the human organism, syntropy (a formative tendency at work in the universe), and the practice of humanistic/holistic psychology.

"A New Operating Manual for Being Human" is a true wake-up call; it will no doubt attract a wide range of readers that include mental health professionals, educators, students of psychology and anyone interested in the psychology of consciousness and personal growth. With decades of experience behind him, Dr. Klein crafted his book to help people understand that we all have been led to believe in a limited conception of what is humanly possible. It is time to go beyond mankind's limited conception of our human potential.

About the Author

Dr. Neal Klein began his search into the nature of consciousness and human potential while an undergraduate at Dickinson College in the late 1960s.
