ROLLING MEADOWS, Ill., Jan. 4, 2006 (PRIMEZONE) -- Northrop Grumman Corporation (NYSE:NOC) has appointed three vice presidents to lead significant business and functional areas within the company's Electronic Systems sector, effective immediately.

Everett H. Pratt, Jr. has been appointed vice president of business development for the Defensive Systems Division with executive responsibility for the development and implementation of all marketing and business capture strategies.
Pratt joined the company in 2002 after serving for several years as an independent consultant to Northrop Grumman. He had a distinguished 33-year career in the U.S. Air Force, retiring as lieutenant general and vice commander of U.S. Air Forces in Europe. Most recently, Pratt served as vice president of radio frequency combat and information systems for the Defensive Systems Division.
Pratt earned a bachelor's degree in international affairs from Emory University and graduated from the Air Force's Air Command and Staff College and the Air War College as well as the Executive Program in National and International Security at Harvard University.
Succeeding Pratt as vice president of radio frequency combat and information systems (RFCIS) is Gregory A. Schmidt, who will have executive responsibility for all RFCIS programs including legacy radio-frequency electronic warfare, integrated electronic warfare and electronic attack programs.
Schmidt joined the company in 1982 and has held a variety of positions in quality assurance, engineering and manufacturing and program management. He assumed his most recent position, as vice president of engineering and manufacturing for the Defensive Systems Division, in 2001.
Schmidt earned a bachelor's degree in chemical engineering from Bucknell University and a master's degree in technology management from the University of Maryland.
Carl R. Smith has been appointed to vice president of engineering and manufacturing with executive responsibility for all engineering and manufacturing processes and regulatory systems activities across all Defensive Systems Division locations.
Smith joined the company in 1984 and has held a number of positions in engineering and program management including manager of microwave power module systems engineering, engineering program manager for Falcon Edge, and most recently, director of systems engineering and engineering program manager for all RFCIS programs.
Smith earned a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering from Michigan Technological University, a master's degree in engineering management from the Illinois Institute of Technology and has completed the General Manager's Program at Harvard University.
