Buffalo Expands Its Reach in the Wireless Multimedia Market With the Industry's First Amplified Super A/G Networking Solutions

The New Wireless Networking Products Are The Only Products of Their Kind to Provide True Amplification Technology for Increased Wireless Range and Faster Wireless Streaming of Digital Content

LAS VEGAS, Jan. 5, 2006 (PRIMEZONE) -- CES Booth No. RV2 -- Buffalo Technology, a global leader in the design, development and manufacturing of wireless and wired networking, storage and memory solutions, announced today the latest additions to its award-winning line of wireless LAN solutions for the consumer market -- the AirStation(tm) Wireless A/G High Power Smart Router (WHR-HP-AM54G54) and the AirStation(tm) Wireless A/G High Power USB Adapter with Antenna (WLI-U2-AMG54HP).

Buffalo's new wireless solutions are ideal for streaming multimedia content such as music, photos and videos; wireless gaming or large file transfers over their wireless network. The products are designed to reduce dead spots and offer increased throughput speeds that are 1.5 to 2 times faster than standard 802.11g or 802.11a/g products. The new router produces increased wireless-transmit power of up to 60% over standard 802.11a or 802.11g routers and extends the range of standard 802.11g wireless client devices by up to 70%, producing an overall performance boost by up to 50%.

Buffalo's new wireless devices allow consumers to take advantage of two wireless networking technologies -- 802.11b/g for compatibility and basic networking such as e-mail and Internet browsing; and 802.11a for heavy file transfers and multimedia streaming.

"Wireless networking is practically ubiquitous, and with the flood of multimedia products that offer wireless capabilities, the consumer market is increasingly taking advantage of all that high-bandwidth, high-speed networking has to offer," stated Morikazu Sano, vice president of global marketing at Buffalo Technology. "We wanted to offer our customers a different kind of wireless 802.11a/g solution -- one that combines our high-power true amplification technology with increased wireless bandwidth, thus allowing Buffalo to continue to deliver innovative, customer-centric solutions that meet every wireless networking and multimedia need."

Using the Atheros Super AG(r) chipset, Buffalo's new wireless solutions allow users to take advantage of dual-band technology. The products utilize channel-bonding technology, which significantly improves wireless performance on both the 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz bands. Users experience data rates of up to 108Mbps and throughput rates of more than 60Mbps*. The products also include a high power amplifier to improve performance at increased ranges or in mutli-room / multi-floor structures or more densely built structures such as high masonry homes.

The products also feature Buffalo's patent-pending AOSS(tm) (One-Touch Secure System) technology, which is currently the only one-touch wireless and security installation and configuration system available on the market today. All of Buffalo's wireless LAN solutions include advanced security features such as WPA-PSK with AES support, which gives the products the ability to support WPA2 - the latest and most powerful security standard for wireless networks. Additional security features include 128/64-bit WEP, Dynamic Packet Filtering and NAT, Intrusion Detector, and SPI Firewall.

AirStation(tm) Wireless A/G High Power Smart Router (WHR-HP-AM54G54)

Along with the built-in signal amplifier, the AirStation Wireless A/G High Power Smart Router also includes performance enhancing Wireless Distribution System (WDS) support for bridging and repeating. The router features a built-in DHCP server with a 4 port 10/100 Auto-Sensing switch and Automatic Channel Support, which automatically selects the best wireless channel with the least interference. FTTH (fiber-to-the-home) allows for optimized LAN/WAN speeds at 98.7Mbps of wired throughput.

AirStation(tm) Wireless A/G High Power USB Adapter with Antenna (WLI-U2-AMG54HP)

The USB adapter delivers instant wireless connectivity for any Windows compatible PC or laptop with a USB port. The product supports Hi-Speed USB 2.0 technology running up to 480Mbps. The versatile form factor makes the adapter the ideal wireless solution for any network environment as it includes a detachable stand so users can either clip it to a notebook or place it on a desk next to a desktop. The product also includes a directional antenna for increased wireless range.

Backed by a limited two-year warranty and toll-free 24/7 technical support, the AirStation(tm) Wireless A/G High Power Smart Router (WHR-HP-AM54G54) and the AirStation(tm) Wireless A/G High Power USB Adapter with Antenna (WLI-U2-AMG54HP) will be available in February at estimated street prices of $99 for the router and $79 for the USB Adapter. The products will be available for purchase through retailers, online resellers and Buffalo's web site. 108 Mbps is the maximum link speed available when Super G and Super AG are in Dynamic Turbo mode. Theoretical wireless data rates are based on applicable IEEE 802.11 standards. Actual user throughput will be lower than the theoretical link rate and will vary depending upon network and environmental conditions.
