Buffalo Expands Its Terabyte NAS Offerings to the Business-to-Business Market

The TeraStation Pro Offers SMBs Enhanced Reliability, Simple Configuration and Improved Functionality

LAS VEGAS, Jan. 5, 2006 (PRIMEZONE) -- -- CES Booth No. RV2 -- Buffalo Technology, a global leader in the design, development and manufacturing of wired and wireless networking, storage and memory solutions, today introduced the latest addition to its TeraStation Terabyte portfolio of Network Attached Storage (NAS) solutions. TeraStation Pro is designed for small-to-medium businesses (SMBs), who want a cost-effective, high-performance, NAS device, which delivers superior reliability and usability. The product is now available in capacities of 0.6TB (TS-0.6TGL/R5), 1TB (TS-1.0TGL/R5) and 1.6TB (TS-1.6TGL/R5).

The TeraStation Pro incorporates highly reliable serial ATA hard drives, which offer better transfer rates, smaller cables and the ability to quick-swap drives. A lockable door on the front panel allows users to easily access and replace the product's hard drives. It also includes an LCD monitor, which indicates in what mode the TeraStation is operating, disk usage, network information, or if there are any problems with the device.

"The B2B NAS market has mainly catered to the enterprise. However, small-to-medium businesses are in great need of a reliable, easy-to-use, high-performance, high-capacity network storage solution," stated Morikazu Sano, vice president of global marketing at Buffalo Technology. "Because most SMBs don't have the financial and internal resources to install and maintain a sophisticated, enterprise-class NAS infrastructure, we developed the TeraStation to remove that obstacle and provide small-to-medium businesses with an advanced solution that meets their budget and IT needs."

The new TeraStation Pro is Windows and Macintosh compatible and includes four hard drives. The device also features four operational modes: Standard Mode, Spanning Mode, Mirroring Mode and Raid 5 Mode. The TeraStation Pro features an advanced RAID system, which continually checks hard drive performance. If a problem is detected with one of the drives, data will automatically be re-written to another drive. For increased reliability, the TeraStation Pro records the number of bad sector replacements and indicates when a drive needs to be changed. This prevents system failure and ensures dependable performance.

Like Buffalo's other TeraStation solutions, the TeraStation Pro includes an FTP server function so users can access and transfer data from any machine with Internet connectivity.

The TeraStation Pro features two USB 2.0 ports, which allows users to simultaneously connect two external USB hard drives. It also features a 10/100/1000 Gigabit Ethernet port and Jumbo Frame capability for higher transfer speeds than standard Gigabit networks. The product's Journaling File System protects data in the event connection is lost during data transfer.

The TeraStation Pro also features UPS compatibility so the device can be safely powered down automatically or manually and includes Memeo(tm) AutoBackup(tm) software as well as Buffalo's own backup utility.

Backed by a limited one-year warranty and toll-free 24/7 technical support, the TeraStation Pro is immediately available at estimated street prices of $799 for 0.6TB (TS-0.6TGL/R5), $999 for 1TB (TS-1.0TGL/R5) and $1,799 for 1.6TB (TS-1.6TGL/R5). The product will be available through distributors, online resellers and Buffalo's web site.
