Buffalo Continues to Promote Consumer-Friendly Multimedia Devices With the TeraStation Home Server

The First High-Capacity NAS Device Designed to DLNA Guidelines Provides Simple and Affordable Home Network Storage and Digital Content Distribution

LAS VEGAS, Jan. 5, 2006 (PRIMEZONE) -- -- CES Booth Number RV2 -- Buffalo Technology, a global leader in the design, development and manufacturing of wired and wireless networking, storage, multimedia and memory solutions today introduced another addition to its family of products designed to DLNA (Digital Living Network Alliance) Guidelines -- the 1TB TeraStation Home Server (HS-D1.0GL/R5). The product is designed for the consumer market and allows users to easily store and distribute multimedia files such as music, DVD back-ups, family videos and photos around the home. It is the first consumer-friendly, high-capacity NAS device designed to DLNA Guidelines.

DLNA is an interoperability standard for the digital home, which enables PC and consumer electronics products to seamlessly work together. Users can access videos, photos or music stored on the TeraStation and play it back on any device, which is designed to DLNA Guidelines in the home such as a media player connected to a television or stereo. Buffalo's other devices designed to DLNA Guidelines include the LinkTheater Mini (PC-P1LAN) and the LinkStation Home Server, available in capacities of 300GB (HS-D300GL) and 400GB (HS-D400GL).

"Interoperability amongst consumer electronics devices is in high demand in the consumer market. It is essential to provide the general consumer with a home network storage solution that not only meets that demand, but exceeds it," stated Morikazu Sano, vice president of global marketing at Buffalo Technology. "Buffalo's primary focus is on the digital home. With its ability to store large amounts of multimedia content and share that content throughout the home, the TeraStation Home Server is the ideal interoperability solution, which also offers affordability and ease-of-use. You can't find a more perfect device to facilitate the ultimate digital life style."

The new TeraStation Home Server includes media server software from Mediabolic, which provides centralized management and digital content distribution to multiple PCs or network entertainment devices on the home network. It is Windows and Macintosh compatible and includes four operational modes: Standard Mode, Spanning Mode, Mirroring Mode and Raid 5 Mode. The TeraStation includes a built-in USB print server so users can share a network printer and a file server so users can share files across their network. The product's FTP server function allows users to access and transfer data from any machine with Internet connectivity.

The TeraStation Home Server features four USB 2.0 ports and one 10/100/1000 Gigabit Ethernet port. Its Jumbo Frame capability allows for higher transfer speeds than standard Gigabit networks. Up to four external USB hard drives can be connected to the TeraStation concurrently to allow unprecedented expandability and backup options. The included Journaling File System offers additional data protection by allowing instant data and operational recovery in the event of a system failure. The TeraStation also features UPS compatibility so the device can be safely powered down automatically or manually. The product features Memeo(tm) AutoBackup(tm) software as well as Buffalo's own backup utility.

Backed by a limited one-year warranty and toll-free 24/7 technical support, the 1TB TeraStation Home Server (HS-D1.0GL/R5) will be available in January at an estimated street price of $899. The product will be available through retail outlets, resellers and Buffalo's web site.
