DCS in Discussion with Ford Customer Service Division to Supply Daily Parts Catalog Updates


HOUSTON, Jan. 6, 2006 (PRIMEZONE) -- Dealer Computer Services, Inc. (DCS), supplier of the most popular Ford electronic parts catalogs marketed under the names CPD Net XP, CPD 2000Net, and CPD 2000P, announced today that it is in discussion with Ford Customer Service Division (FCSD) to supply daily updates to the Ford parts catalog data in CPD systems. Electronic catalog data is currently published by FCSD on a monthly basis resulting in a six to eight week delay in the distribution of new parts information or corrections to inaccurate parts information to dealers. Such a delay can cost dealers and FCSD significant dollars in terms of lost time and incorrectly ordered parts. The delay can also negatively impact customer satisfaction when the wrong part is ordered or the correct part cannot be identified quickly.

FCSD and DCS have considered the value of daily updates for several years, but two key factors prevented implementation: FCSD did not have the technical capability of producing updates on a daily basis, and DCS had no way of delivering the updates to in-dealership CPD systems daily. FCSD catalog data improvements in recent years now make it possible to produce daily updates. Additionally, the number of CPD workstations connected to the Internet is increasing at a rapid pace as dealers are encouraged to move to Internet communications for many functions. Connection of CPD workstations to the Internet offers the conduit for daily updates.

DCS views the addition of daily updates as potentially the most significant in a long list of improvements to its CPD products since the release of CPD 2000 in October of 1996. Actual implementation of daily updates will require additional development, but could be available within months of a final agreement between FCSD and DCS.
