Microsemi Offers Upgraded Plastic TVS Parts for Avionics Market

-- Offers COTS+ Avionics Grade Products
           -- Exclusive MA(tm) upscreening flow

IRVINE, Calif., Jan. 10, 2006 (PRIMEZONE) -- Microsemi Corporation (Nasdaq:MSCC), a global supplier of high reliability semiconductors, announced today that it is releasing several versions of upgraded TVS packaging in a comprehensive COTS+ product line for avionics and other robust environmental applications.

The product offering includes four designated alternatives: MA(tm) (Microsemi Avionics) packages, which include the Optimum COTS+ offering to optimize circuit yield while minimizing infant mortality--targeted at power levels greater than 2 kW; the MX and MSP packages which have a full 19500 upscreened flow, including QCI group testing, samples, and data; and the MXL, which offers the same MX screening flow but omits costly Group B and C conformance testing typically associated with such products.

Microsemi is a world leader in the design, fabrication, and supply of silicon-based transient voltage suppression (TVS) protection devices in both hermetic and non-hermetic configurations. The company's broad portfolio of TVS devices includes single devices which dissipate 40,000 watts (10/1000 micro-seconds) for high energy industrial and telecommunications applications; 200,000 watts (10/40 micro-seconds) for avionics applications; and a full range of 500W and 1500W low capacitance TVS diodes critical for optimum performance in higher frequency ARINC429 applications.

Qualification test plans and reliability monitoring provided for all these products are in line with the best industry standard practices.

An extension of Commercial Off The Shelf (COTS) upscreening includes screening flows which provide JANTX (MX) and JANS (MSP) equivalent screening and conformance inspection for Military and Space applications respectively. These flows mirror the screening requirements of MIL-PRF-19500 and are available for the entire Microsemi portfolio, including all hermetic and non-hermetic configurations. For plastic components, hermeticity testing is replaced with 100% autoclave.

Microsemi customers do not need to create Source Control Drawings nor define screening flows to specify these upscreening options.

This new product offering addresses a very robust aircraft market which has just seen one of its best year-end results with Boeing and Airbus reporting 1,788 OEM orders, up an impressive 179% in 2005, with prior peaks of approximately 1,100 in 2000.

According to Banc of America Securities Analyst, Don MacDougall, "2005 deliveries increased double digits to approximately 670 units which represents the highest level in three years, but we believe the best is still yet to come considering the recent order intake levels and pent-up demand it reflects. The commercial aerospace upcycle is expected to extend well into the next decade with large commercial deliveries forecast to increase double digits in each of the next three years (building on 10% growth in 2005) according to the BofA Aerospace & Defense Team -- a string of sustained growth (four consecutive years at 10%+ annual growth) that has not been seen in almost 40 years. Deliveries are not expected to retreat from at/near peak levels of approximately 1,000+ that they reach in 2008 until 2012."

"This Microsemi product offering demonstrates our continued dedication to the high reliability market and our intent to provide innovations that address our customer's needs," said James J. Peterson, CEO and President of Microsemi Corporation. "These products, along with our lightning protection products, show our commitment to develop new products that offer additional value for our customers," he added.

Products are available for immediate sampling and in production quantities. Complete technical information on Microsemi's full line of COTS+ offering is available on the Microsemi Web site, http://www.Microsemi.com. Samples can be ordered through this site or from Microsemi sales representatives and authorized distributors.
