HOUSTON, Jan. 10, 2006 (PRIMEZONE) -- SYSCO Corporation (NYSE:SYY) announced today that Robert J. McMakin, executive vice president of Sysco Food Services of Connecticut, Inc., a SYSCO subsidiary located in Rocky Hill, Connecticut, has been named president and chief executive officer of that company to succeed James M. Danahy, who will become senior vice president, Northeast Region, for SYSCO Corporation. Mr. McMakin will assume his new responsibilities January 16, 2006.
Mr. McMakin, 50, joined SYSCO in 1989 as district sales manager at Hallsmith-Sysco Food Services, located in Norton, Massachusetts. When SYSCO opened its Connecticut operation in 1995, he was appointed vice president of sales at that company. In 1999 he was promoted to senior vice president of sales and marketing, and in 2001 was promoted to his current position. Before joining SYSCO, Mr. McMakin served in various sales and managerial positions in the foodservice industry for 11 years.
Mr. McMakin is a native of Holbrook, Massachusetts and a 1977 graduate of Marquette University, where he earned a bachelor of science degree in Liberal Arts. He and his wife Kathy have three daughters and reside in Glastonbury, Connecticut.
