Holzem Named Assistant Vice President, Information Technology at SYSCO Corporation


HOUSTON, Jan. 10, 2006 (PRIMEZONE) -- SYSCO Corporation (NYSE:SYY) announced today that John D. Holzem has been named assistant vice president, information technology. Mr. Holzem, who currently serves as senior director, information technology - compliance and administration, will assume his new position effective immediately.

Mr. Holzem, 46, began his SYSCO career in 1984 as a software programmer at the company's Baraboo, Wisconsin operation. In 1986 he joined the information technology department at SYSCO's corporate office in Houston, serving in a variety of system development positions including the design and implementation of the SYSCO Uniform System (SUS). Mr. Holzem was promoted to senior director, operating company support -- southeast region in 1999. In 2002 he advanced to senior director, information technology architecture and in 2005 he was appointed to his current role.

Mr. Holzem was born and raised in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. He and his wife, Karen, have two sons and a daughter and reside in Spring, Texas.
