Symmetricom Announces New Low g Sensitivity Military Oven Controlled Crystal Oscillator (OCXO)

Oven controlled crystal oscillator (OCXO) provides low g sensitivity, low phase noise for military applications including navigation, radar and secure communications

SAN JOSE, Calif., Jan. 11, 2006 (PRIMEZONE) -- Symmetricom, Inc. (Nasdaq:SYMM), a worldwide leader in precise time and frequency products and services, today announced its 9633 accelerometer compensated OCXO, the high-performance, ultra-miniature ovenized crystal oscillator designed to provide a high stability output. The 9633 is designed specifically for military applications, including navigation, radar and secure communications, where low acceleration sensitivity capabilities are critical to realize low phase noise under vibration. The 9633 has demonstrated sensitivities of less than 2 x 10E-11 per g (gamma) over a wide frequency range.

"The U.S. Department of Defense (DOD) is demanding improved phase noise to meet the needs of next generation systems, including navigation, radar and secure communications," commented Doug Lowrie, product marketing manager at Symmetricom. "It is critical for the military to have a stable frequency reference that can withstand vibration without severe degradation to phase noise. Now, with the 9633, Symmetricom can meet the challenges facing next generation Communications, Navigation and Identification (CNI) and Software Defined Radio (SDR) platforms."

The environmentally rugged 9633 features a SC-cut quartz resonator and sustaining electronics, which are controlled at precise temperature to achieve temperature insensitive performance, excellent short-term stability, phase noise and aging characteristics. Backed by an extensive military and space legacy, which include Milstar, CEC, GPS I/II/IIA/IIF, SBIRS, Cassini, EOS, the 9600 series meets the challenges for time and frequency, even under the most adverse environmental conditions.

Symmetricom designs and manufactures highly stable and precise rubidium, cesium and quartz oscillators for instrumentation and satellite applications. These oscillators are available in stand-alone and embedded frequency reference subsystems. Symmetricom's staff includes experienced technologists who thoroughly understand the unique requirements of military environments.
