NASA Taps Northrop Grumman for Software Development


MCLEAN, Va., Jan. 11, 2006 (PRIMEZONE) -- Northrop Grumman Corporation (NYSE:NOC) has been awarded a U.S. General Services Administration Millennia task order by the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) for scientific software services that will enable more efficient use of NASA supercomputing resources.

Under the terms of the contract valued at $30 million over five years, Northrop Grumman's Information Technology (IT) sector will provide applications support to scientists using NASA high-performance computing resources for the Software Integration and Visualization Office (SIVO) at NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center in Greenbelt, Md. The company will also provide software development, analysis and scientific visualization services for NASA's modeling, analysis and prediction program.

"Northrop Grumman has assembled a strong team of skilled computer scientists that will employ leading software engineering processes to help improve the use of NASA's supercomputers," said Wood Parker, president of Northrop Grumman IT's Intelligence group. "We will leverage our own investment in high-performance networking architectures to bring the latest technology to NASA scientists."

Northrop Grumman will provide a range of applications services, and will improve software processes in support of SIVO and its customers. The company will assist Goddard scientists in applications ranging from climate models to space environment models.

Work on the contract will be performed primarily at NASA Goddard and in Chantilly, Va.

Northrop Grumman's team on the task order includes Advanced Management Technology, Arlington, Va.; SP Systems and Global Science, Technology and SGT, Greenbelt, Md.; KeyLogic Systems, Columbia, Md. and Morgantown, W.Va.; Enterprise Management Systems, Gaithersburg, Md.; and Earth Resources Technology, Jessup, Md. University partners include Morgan State University, Baltimore, Md.; University of Illinois at Chicago; and University of Minnesota.
