First Horizon National Corp. Makes FORTUNE List of 100 Best Companies to Work For for Ninth Straight Year

MEMPHIS, Tenn., Jan. 12, 2006 (PRIMEZONE) -- First Horizon National Corp. (NYSE:FHN) has earned its ninth straight spot on FORTUNE magazine's list of the 100 Best Companies to Work For. Last year First Horizon was included in FORTUNE's Hall of Fame as one of only 22 companies that have made the list every year since its inception in 1998.

First Horizon also has earned recognition as an employer of choice from AARP and Working Mother magazines and as one of the country's best corporate citizens from Business Ethics magazine.

The 100 Best Companies to Work For list is compiled for FORTUNE by Robert Levering and Milton Moskowitz of the Great Places to Work Institute in San Francisco based on two criteria: an evaluation of the policies and culture of each company and the opinions of the company's employees. Employee opinions are given more weight; two-thirds of the total score comes from employee responses to a 57-question survey that goes to at least 400 randomly selected employees from each company. The survey asks about things like attitudes toward management, job satisfaction and camaraderie within the organization. The remaining one-third of the score is based on an evaluation of each company's credibility (communication to employees), respect (opportunities and benefits), fairness (compensation, diversity) and pride/camaraderie (philanthropy/celebrations). Companies that are at least seven years old and have 1,000 or more employees are eligible for the list.

The list and related stories appear in FORTUNE's Jan. 23 issue, on newsstands Jan. 16, and at www.fortune.com.
