'Coping With the 24-Hour News Cycle' to be the Focus of Atlanta Press Club's Monthly Program

ATLANTA, Feb. 8, 2006 (PRIMEZONE) -- On Thursday, Feb. 9 at Manuel's Tavern, the Atlanta Press Club will discuss the advantages and challenges of the 24-hour news cycle. Networking begins at 6 p.m. and the program is from 7 -- 8:30 p.m. Confirmed panelists include Bobbie Battista, principal of Atamira Communications and former CNN reporter/anchor, Lee Clontz, Professor of Electronic Media at Emory University and former New York Times online reporter, Condace Pressley, Assistant Program Director for WSB Radio and Angela Tuck, Public Editor for the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. A representative from CNN has been invited. Robert Simmermon, the often-quoted Atlanta media psychologist, will moderate this program.

Covering news 24 hours a day is now the norm. Do competition and the desire to "scoop" affect coverage? How has the public's insatiable appetite for information affected our industry? What personal and family pressures come along with being on duty at all hours of the day? How does the relentless pressure to find a new lead take its toll on reporters? These are just some of the points we will address during February's monthly program.

The program will be held Thurs., Feb. 9, 2006 at Manuel's Tavern, located at 602 N. Highland Avenue, NE, Atlanta, GA 30307. The doors open at 6 p.m. for networking, hors d'oeuvres and a cash bar. The program begins at 7 p.m. and lasts till 8:30. This program is open to the public and is free for Atlanta Press Club members and students. It is $10 for nonmembers. Reservations are required.
