Emulex 4 Gb/s Fibre Channel HBA Selected for New IBM eServer BladeCenter H Series

COSTA MESA, Calif., Feb. 8, 2006 (PRIMEZONE) -- Emulex Corporation (NYSE:ELX), the most trusted name in storage networking connectivity, today announced that IBM will use the Emulex 4 Gb/s LP1105-BC dual channel host bus adapter (HBA) in a powerful new line of IBM eServer BladeCenter H systems. Designed specifically for the IBM BladeCenter H, the Emulex LP1105-BC is a high-performance, dual channel storage area network (SAN) connectivity solution designed to work in Windows, Linux and AIX operating environments.

"The IBM BladeCenter system is designed to focus on lowering costs while simplifying infrastructure system manageability, and this new family of server blades allows end users to leverage unique space-and power-efficient solutions," said Tim Dougherty, Director of IBM BladeCenter and xSeries Product Marketing. "Working with Emulex to provide high performance, reliable SAN connectivity solutions for IBM BladeCenter is critical to our end users, as a large percentage of server blade deployments are attached to SANs."

Customers choosing to integrate Emulex HBAs into BladeCenter servers for SAN connectivity will benefit from the same market-leading performance, reliability and management features they have come to trust and expect from Emulex. Additionally, the Emulex LP1105-BC HBA enables IBM customers, who have already standardized on Emulex HBAs for SAN connectivity, to continue utilizing the Emulex infrastructure solutions they have come to rely on.

"Emulex and IBM have a longstanding relationship and are committed to delivering superior server and storage solutions complemented by superior SAN connectivity solutions," said Mike Smith, executive vice president of worldwide marketing, Emulex. "Emulex's family of market-leading 4 Gb/s Fibre Channel HBAs, such as the LP1105-BC, provides networked storage solutions with the scalability, flexibility and reliability needed to deliver maximum value to users of IBM BladeCenter-powered solutions."

Leveraging Emulex's flexible hardware-independent HBA architecture enables IT managers to seamlessly integrate 4 Gb/s HBAs into new and existing IBM BladeCenter environments, while ensuring backward compatibility with 2 Gb/s solutions. The LP1105-BC also provides driver compatibility with previously installed Emulex HBAs, including the generally available 2 Gb/s LP1005DC HBA, which is also designed specifically for IBM BladeCenter environments. The Emulex LP1105-BC's ability to work in a variety of operating environments further solidifies its flexibility and value to users. General availability of the 4 Gb/s LP1105-BC is scheduled for second quarter 2006.
