Ex-Buddhist Monk Tells Epic Tale of Power, Intrigue and Faith in Thailand

LOS ANGELES, Feb. 10, 2006 (PRIMEZONE) -- Thai Heaven, the epic novel by Jacques Bailhe, has been released by Xlibris. This thriller paints a vivid picture of Thailand as a young American entrepreneur battles to save his fortune and finds true love amid the sublime and sordid world of international business in Thailand. Filled with unforgettable characters, profound beauty, and fast-paced action, Thai Heaven is reminiscent of James Clavell at his best. As a monk and fluent in Thai, Mr. Bailhe had the rare opportunity to see Thai culture from the inside, and as a reporter and photographer for The Nation, he covered the Thai political and business world, including the opium trade which plays a prominent role in Thai Heaven.

Jack Hannaman is building a new airport in Bangkok when his partner attempts to grab the reins of power in Thailand and throws Jack to the jaws of ruin. The Chairman of a U.S. defense conglomerate desperately needs the airport to survive his failed investment in a new jet fighter. But more dangerous than all is the Minister of the Interior who has but one qualification for the job. He's a killer. His world shattered by forces of culture, greed, and power, Jack is betrayed by his Thai lover, a business magnate in her own right. His only hope becomes his long-lost boyhood friend from a primitive hilltribe, now a kingpin in the opium trade. The hell-bent action and clash of cultures challenges our conceptions of trust, faith, love, and confidence. Thai Heaven is now available online at Xlibris.com and major bookstores and libraries nationwide.
