Northrop Grumman Showcases Comprehensive Health Information Technology Solutions at HIMSS Annual Conference

SAN DIEGO, Feb. 10, 2006 (PRIMEZONE) -- Northrop Grumman Corporation (NYSE:NOC) will highlight integrated health systems to support the clinical and public health informatics next week at the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS) 2006 Annual Conference and Exposition.

The conference and exposition will be held Feb. 12-16 at the San Diego Convention Center. Northrop Grumman will exhibit at booth 527.

On Monday, Feb. 13 at 11:15 a.m. in Room 28C, Northrop Grumman's Chief Scientist Robert Cothren, Ph.D., and Dr. Anthony Inae, M.D., director of Informatics Program Development will present a session titled "Leveraging Regional Health Information Organizations (RHIO) for Public Health Surveillance and Research." Cothren and Inae will discuss Northrop Grumman's experience with leveraging electronic health records that capture computable health information to improve clinical care and population health.

Cothren, who also serves as program manager for the Nationwide Health Information Network architecture prototype program at Northrop Grumman, will participate in a panel discussion on Wednesday, Feb. 15 at 8:30 a.m. in Room 20C. He will introduce the Northrop Grumman consortium and architectural approach to the program.

On Wednesday, Feb. 15 at 10:45 a.m. at the Interoperability Showcase booth 7319 Theater A, Northrop Grumman will support the U.S. Department of Defense and U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs in presenting a "Seamless Transition." The presentation highlights the collaboration between the Defense Department and Veteran Affairs in sharing health records to assist returning U.S. service members from active duty to veteran status. The Defense Department and Veterans Affairs will also present a seamless exchange of military and veteran medical summaries with the private sector in the Interoperability Showcase.

Northrop Grumman will demonstrate the technology behind the U.S. Department of Defense Military Health System's Armed Forces Longitudinal Technology Application (AHLTA). AHLTA is the largest deployed, patient-centric electronic health record globally. The demonstration exhibits the granularity of computable data captured, ease of use of a structured vocabulary, and ability to rapidly tailor the type of data captured during a patient encounter to account for multiple diagnoses and to ensure accurate automatic coding of the encounter.

As part of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services' Nationwide Health Information Network architecture prototype program, Northrop Grumman is developing an architecture prototype that will help provide clinical information to physicians during patient encounters, facilitate access to more accurate and complete information about new patients, and better enable public health agencies to monitor the health of the American public. The company will illustrate how existing electronic health records and RHIO initiatives might be linked to exchange health care information nationwide.

Northrop Grumman helps public health agencies collect and analyze public health data. The company will demonstrate its work with the Delaware Electronic Reporting and Surveillance System, a Web-based disease surveillance system. Northrop Grumman supports public health agencies through surveillance upgrades and expansions for faster response to infectious diseases that have a statewide and national impact on population health and vaccine regulation.

Northrop Grumman will also demonstrate emergency response scenarios using the mobile TouchTable(tm), a 45-inch touch-sensitive user-interface and display system, developed by Applied Minds in partnership with Northrop Grumman. The TouchTable creates a vivid, immersive environment that encourages geospatial collaboration by multiple decision makers using simple, intuitive gestures.
