New Jersey State Trooper Involved in Controversial Turnpike Shooting Reveals Racial Profiling

TRENTON, N.J., Feb. 24, 2006 (PRIMEZONE) -- For centuries, politics and bias have always been felt by the general public negatively as society struggled to achieve equality and fairness. In recent years, raunchy politics and racial profiling shocked the entire nation when the infamous New Jersey Turnpike Shooting happened. Author and former New Jersey State Trooper John Hogan, who was directly involved in this precedent-setting case, reveals to public readers the shocking details behind the shooting and ensuing investigation through his compelling new book, Turnpike Trooper: Racial Profiling & The New Jersey State Police.

For the first time ever, Turnpike Trooper also divulges the facts and figures behind the practice and training of the explosive issue of racial profiling in the aftermath of the Turnpike Shooting. It explores not only the questionable selection process of the New Jersey State Police, but also makes public the deliberate misconduct of state officials during judicial processes and highlights the tragedy of state troopers, including the author himself, who were used as mere scapegoats by ruthless politicians.

As the book is also based on the author's life, Hogan shares his personal views elaborating about what he experienced, why the New Jersey Turnpike is considered a major corridor for illicit activity, what specific rules were deliberately broken, and who were the abusers. Furthermore, readers will learn precisely why the author is the first ever law enforcer to openly tackle the issue of racial profiling since this furor exploded nationally.

Turnpike Trooper: Racial Profiling & The New Jersey State Police is a fiery and deeply compelling book that is bound to attract all kinds of readers, including lawyers, students, law enforcers, farmers, politicians, and educators. The book's content will open people's minds and give the general public the courage to question the acts of their elected officials; to realize the dubious circumstances confronting law enforcement officials; and ultimately to reevaluate their own beliefs regarding the judicial process and other debatable issues that society currently faces. Simply put, Turnpike Trooper is a true-to-life momentous book that readers cannot afford to miss.

About the Author

Growing up in a small Burlington County, New Jersey town with the sole aspiration of becoming a New Jersey state trooper, nothing previously experienced in his life could have prepared State Trooper John Hogan for the national spotlight. As a member of the 113th Recruit Class, fighting bureaucracy became an all too common practice during his seven-year career with the New Jersey State Police. Following the infamous NJ Turnpike shooting and the nation's outcry over racial profiling allegations, Hogan was immediately labeled a racist and cast as "the poster boy for racial profiling throughout the country." Now witness the one-sided prosecution that ruined his career, tarnished his reputation and engulfed nearly five years of his life. Hogan uses Turnpike Trooper to reflect upon his vast experiences that is a must-read for anyone having a positive or negative experience related to politics, law enforcement or prejudice of any kind.
