CDG Commends Nokia and Sanyo Venture to Develop CDMA Handsets

Partnership to Facilitate Greater Choice for CDMA Operators

COSTA MESA, Calif., March 2, 2006 (PRIMEZONE) -- The CDMA Development Group (CDG) (www.cdg.org) today announced that the organization commends the recent announcement of a new company to be formed by Nokia and SANYO, specifically focused on making mobile phones based on the CDMA2000 standard. The deal marks CDMA's continued proliferation and stronghold in the global telecommunications industry.

"We congratulate Nokia and SANYO on their recently announced preliminary agreement, which will help ensure an even greater selection of CDMA handsets for operators around the world," said Perry LaForge, executive director of the CDG. "I was fortunate to meet with some of the management of both companies over the last few days and I can tell you there is great excitement about the new company. The combined entity will have a broadly appealing product portfolio, strong brand recognition and a solid technology base. It is an exciting combination, leveraging the strengths of each organization with minimal overlap. The CDG looks forward to working with the forthcoming new company on the further growth of CDMA2000 worldwide and we are pleased with their very strong support of our handset cost reduction and handset testing activities."
