About the Author

Hilary Koprowski was born in Warsaw, Poland. He is a graduate of the Warsaw University - Medical School and of two conservatories of music, one in Warsaw and the other in Rome. He has lived in the United States since 1944 and is the world renowned scientist in biomedical research. Hilary Koprowski is the discoverer of the first vaccine against poliomyelitis. He received honorary degrees from numerous universities and he is the recipient of many honors, including: Legion D'Honneur Award from the French Government, The Order of the Lion from the King of Belgium, the French Order of Merit for Research and Invention, and many others. He is the author of more than eight hundred scientific papers and three books of fiction. In addition to this, Dr. Koprowski is an avid art collector and a man of profound knowledge of world literature and arts. He speaks fluently eight languages and is currently a professor of Thomas Jefferson University in Philadelphia.
