TASER Device Prevents Armed Attack

WASHINGTON, March 14, 2006 (PRIMEZONE) -- TASER International, Inc. (Nasdaq:TASR), a market leader in advanced electronic control devices released the following News Alert:

According to news reports from Delaware's WBOC 16 and The News Journal, Delaware State Police were called to a residence on Vaughn Road near Georgetown this past Sunday where they were greeted by a mentally disturbed man who was wielding an eight-inch hunting knife. The man was threatening to cut himself and was yelling at the officers on the scene to shoot him.

After deploying the TASER device(R) into the man's torso, officers moved in to take the knife, end the suicide-by-cop situation and take the man into custody. He was taken to Nanticoke Memorial Hospital in Seaford where he was also under observation for mental illness.

Sgt. Michael Barlow said that injuries to both officers and those being arrested have declined since TASER devices were first deployed in Georgetown in May 2004. According to a statement from the Georgetown police, "If the officers had not been equipped with the TASER, this incident may have ended on a much more tragic note."
