HOUSTON, March 17, 2006 (PRIMEZONE) -- Employees of TIAA-CREF, the financial services organization and leading provider of retirement security in the academic, medical and cultural fields, today delivered hundreds of daffodil plants to cancer patients at Texas Children's Hospital and the Methodist Hospital.

The local efforts compliment a larger, national fundraising effort through the American Cancer Society's Daffodils of Hope program. TIAA-CREF employees are delivering flowers in seven major cities including Atlanta, Denver, Durham, Charlotte, Houston, New York and Tampa.

"As the first flower of spring, the daffodil becomes our symbol of hope for a world free of cancer," said Joe Zuniga, Director of Human Resources for the American Cancer Society. "We are so pleased that TIAA-CREF has become a consistent supporter of our efforts."

In 2005, TIAA-CREF participated in the American Cancer Society's Daffodil Days of Hope program by purchasing 675 daffodil bouquets and plants and delivering them to cancer patients in eight hospitals in Atlanta, Charlotte, Denver, New York and Raleigh, N.C. This year, TIAA-CREF expanded its participation with visits to hospitals in Houston and Tampa.

"We are honored to participate in the American Cancer Society's Daffodils of Hope Program for a second year," said Bertram Scott, Executive Vice President of TIAA-CREF. "Our employees enjoy helping to bring a little hope into the lives of cancer survivors."
