Stock Commentary - March 20, 2006

Thinking back over the past three years or so, overall, there have been many opportunities. Oil stocks of course. Also gold, biotech, and even semiconductors. Not to mention real estate.

So, when so many things we so good, people get pretty content. That's when we, as traders, start to consider the possibilities of a more volatile market. That's when we keep looking to spot changes in trends right down to the day like we did a week ago.

There is always opportunity either long or short. Id' be happy to trade stocks in the same sectors several times per year and end up with profits even when the sector ends the year flat. Some of the best traders did very well in the 1970s because even though the market did 'nothing', there were lots of trading opportunities. Not just "buy-and-hold" like brokers always say, but real trading. Taking profits. Getting in at bottoms, and out at tops. That's what we are doing here. That's what trading is. There are times to hold, and times to sell. Each time these time frames are different.

Brokers will almost always tell you to 'just stay in'. Reason being, they really don't know when to get out anyway. If you buy, you need a plan to sell as well. We do. Commentary supplied by StockPickReport and DonHarrold.net analyst, Neil Batho.
