Stock Commentary -- March 20, 2006

Intel (Nasdaq:INTC) was once seen as a "bellweather" stock. Many of you can remember the days when TV analysts would say that "INTC could not drop below" a certain point without causing "damage" to the Nasdaq.

We know now the truth of those statements. 2000 and 2001 proved those axioms correct.

Now, things are different.

Intel is not the dominant global leader it once was. Market cap is down sharply. Competition up just as sharp. The current environment is an amalgam of converging circumstances that involve everything from Asian competition to rising interest rates in the U.S.

My opinion is that all the negative issues in the world won't stop INTC from rising over the short term. Weekly and daily charts tell me that, technically speaking, INTC is oversold. I believe that the stock is in a good position to climb.

At any rate, INTC should be closer to a bottom that a top, and for anyone looking for a reason to buy or hold, that's good news.
