Vision Solutions Chief Scientist Dave Brown to Speak at COMMON Spring 2006

Brown to Address Virtualization Trends at Conference of World's Largest IBM User Groups

IRVINE, Calif., March 20, 2006 (PRIMEZONE) -- Vision Solutions, a leading high availability solution provider to the Global 5000, has announced that Dave Brown, chief scientist, will present "High Availability and System i5 Server Virtualization Trends" at the upcoming COMMON Spring 2006 IT Education Conference & Expo that is being held in Minneapolis, March 26-30. Brown's session will be on March 30th at 11 AM.

Brown will provide insight and perspective gleaned from his 30 years of experience developing and designing software applications for the midrange market, including his role as principal architect of the award-winning Vision Suite software first announced in 1996. His remarks will focus on an in-depth discussion of the need for coordination between multiple operating systems; techniques for managing availability in an enterprise, coordinating the status of Windows, Linux, AIX and OS/400 Clusters; and central point management of multiple servers.

Several developments in System i5 have driven the need for enterprise class high availability and the management of multiple platforms through a single user interface. In addition to i5/OS, System i5 supports Linux, AIX and Windows; this requires the management of multiple partitions, independent auxiliary storage pools and SAN disk drives. High availability actions in this new virtualized environment require coordination between actions on different operating systems so that dependency relationships on devices databases and applications are maintained. Brown will review these requirements and highlight the steps Vision Solutions has been taking to provide a uniform, coordinated interface that utilizes IBM initiatives such as autonomics and the virtualization engine to manage high availability in this complex environment.

COMMON is the world's largest group of IBM and IBM-compatible information technology users. The organization comprises 6,500 individual and corporate members representing more than 23,000 IT professionals involved with the application of IBM System i5, Netfinity and related platforms within a wide variety of business environments. The group plays a leading role in helping IT professionals get the most from their technology investments. It accomplishes that by providing unparalleled access to the latest knowledge, education and expertise -- to increase the value of information technology to businesses.

Brown is a frequent speaker at domestic and international user and industry conferences and is an active volunteer Subject Matter Expert in High Availability with the COMMON midrange computing user group. Prior to joining Vision Solutions, Brown had worked as a consultant designing software solutions such as the worldwide manufacturing system used at Mattel Toys, Inc., as well as reservation software for a major travel agency. He has also written and implemented nutritional optimization software for feed mills using linear programming techniques. He initially worked for Vision Solutions as a consultant and later became director of research and, most recently, chief scientist. Brown holds an MBA (Masters in Business Administration) from Stanford University specializing in Operations Research.
