TASER Device Ends Dangerous Traffic Stop

According to news reports from North Carolina's WWAY-TV ABC Channel 3, a New Hanover County deputy was able to use his TASER device yesterday to arrest a local man who became hostile during a routine traffic stop.

After witnessing a driver making a bad turn, Cpl. Joseph Cian went to pull the driver over but as he approached at the car window the driver started swallowing and throwing what was believed to be cocaine out the car window. As Cpl. Cian got the man out of the car, the man become hostile and put his hand on something in his pocket, later discovered to be a knife. At that time, Cpl. Cian deployed his TASER device to prevent any potential danger.

Cpl. Cian talked about the value of the TASER system he had on his belt at the time of the incident saying, "I enjoy every minute of it. It has saved me on multiple occasions. I've had it over a year. It has helped me numerous times. At this time he's conscious, alert; he has no problems. He's completely recovered. He's going to jail and I'm OK."
