Engenio Selects Emulex InSpeed Embedded Switches for Improved Performance and Availability While Scaling

New Design Win Propels 4 Gb/s Technology Adoption and Expands Storage Capabilities

SAN DIEGO, April 3, 2006 (PRIMEZONE) -- Storage Networking World -- Emulex Corporation (NYSE:ELX), the most trusted name in storage networking connectivity, today announced that the Engenio Storage Group of LSI Logic Corporation has selected the Emulex InSpeed(tm) SOC 422 embedded storage switch for integration into its new 4 Gb/s switched bunch of disks (SBOD), the FC4600 drive module. This 4 Gb/s storage expansion unit is the newest addition to the Engenio line of midrange disk enclosures using Emulex's industry-standard InSpeed technology to create storage offerings with unparalleled reliability and performance.

"The rapid adoption of 4 Gb/s technology validates our customers' interest in higher performance interconnections," said Steve Gardner, Director of Product Marketing, Engenio Storage Group, LSI Logic. "Together with Emulex, we continue to reinforce our market leadership by providing our customers with industry-leading, next-generation technologies in storage networking solutions."

Designed for customers who want to maximize IOPS performance and increase storage density, the FC4600 4 Gb/s SBOD supports up to 16 disk drives and leverages the scalability of Emulex's InSpeed SOC 422 to accommodate both 2 Gb/s and 4 Gb/s FC hard drives. With this backward compatibility and unique point-to-point switching capability, end users can avoid costly upgrades and take advantage of the maximum storage performance and reliability that InSpeed provides. As the de facto, industry standard for connecting disk drives in the back end of storage systems and with more than 10 million installed ports, InSpeed continues to raise the bar in providing reliable, high performance, cutting edge storage solutions.

"With its integration into the FC4600 4 Gb/s SBOD, the InSpeed SOC 422 delivers a new benchmark to maximize storage system performance while scaling and RAS," said Mike Smith, Executive Vice President of Worldwide Marketing, Emulex. "Our longstanding relationship with Engenio has enabled us to deliver the benefits of storage networking to an increasingly diverse audience of end users, and we are proud to incorporate proven InSpeed technology into the new line of Engenio 4 Gb/s disk enclosures."
