Emulex Streamlines HBA Management With Launch of Next Generation HBAnyware 3.0 -- Powerful, Secure, Remote Management Solution

COSTA MESA, Calif., April 3, 2006 (PRIMEZONE) -- Emulex Corporation (NYSE:ELX), the most trusted name in storage networking connectivity, announced today the next generation of its powerful Fibre Channel host bus adapter (HBA) management suite, HBAnyware(tm) 3.0, with new and enhanced functionality to streamline and centralize the management of HBAs within storage area networking solutions.

Emulex's HBAnyware 3.0 solution simplifies storage networking management and reduces planned downtime by allowing host bus adapters to be independently and uniformly configured and managed from a single point, which contributes to lowering the total cost of ownership. These capabilities provide end users with critical time- and cost-savings, especially when leveraged in large-scale enterprise environments with hundreds of SAN-attached servers, multiple operating systems or numerous data centers.

New features and capabilities include: (a) Secure Out-of-Band Management via Authenticated CT protocol, adding flexibility for remote management, without compromising security; (b) Advanced Online Diagnostic functions to quickly isolate fabric issues, and automatically collect firmware and driver information in order to expedite troubleshooting and technical support; (c) Enhanced Enterprise Usability features, such as driver profiles and batch mode, which enable administrators to easily specify standard driver settings and propagate them across the entire fabric, significantly streamlining HBA configuration processes, and (d) Symbolic names allowing HBAs to be referenced with more intuitive identifiers, simplifying administration while preventing errors.

"The unique and compelling benefits that HBAnyware 3.0 delivers to end users include the industry's most flexible and secure HBA management tool, along with centralized management and automation capabilities to ensure SAN Best Practices are leveraged across the entire data center," said Mike Smith, executive vice president of Worldwide Marketing, Emulex Corporation. "Emulex's new HBAnyware 3.0 also provides remote management features that utilize industry-leading methods for secure remote access control. With customizable options for HBA identification, driver profiles for standardized settings and advanced online diagnostics, HBAnyware 3.0 capitalizes on the collaboration we've had with IT Managers responsible for the world's largest enterprise data centers and answers their call for tools to further simplify the management of their growing SAN infrastructures."

HBAnyware -- 'Remote Management for HBAs, Anywhere in the SAN'

HBAnyware 3.0 is a powerful platform for efficient and scaleable administration of enterprise SAN connectivity. HBAnyware delivers comprehensive control of local and remotely deployed Emulex HBAs within a centralized management framework. With simple yet flexible deployment options, HBAnyware makes it easy to take control of the operational cost of managing SAN connectivity. End users benefit from the following capabilities:

-- Centralized Remote Management - HBAnyware offers enterprise
storage administrators the flexibility to centrally manage all
the HBAs in their SAN either through an in-band transport or
out-of-band over TCP/IP. From a central console, administrators
can update HBA firmware, manage device driver configuration,
manage HBA inventory, and collect diagnostic information for
HBAs across the enterprise. To ensure security, all HBAnyware
operations are restricted by an access control list and are
cryptographically verified using FC-GS-3 Authenticated CT.

-- Management Automation - HBAnyware automates key management tasks
for unparalleled efficiency in HBA configuration and management.
Driver profiles collect all driver parameter settings so that
they can be replicated on another HBA in a single step. Batch
mode makes it possible to propagate driver profiles and firmware
versions across the SAN effortlessly. In addition, the rich
command line interface of HBAnyware provides for powerful
scripting to automate complex or customized administration tasks.

 -- Enterprise-Class Serviceability - HBAnyware delivers real-time
discovery and tracking of HBAs and connected devices and advanced
online diagnostics to enable quick diagnosis and troubleshooting
of SAN issues. HBA Beaconing allows for error-proof flagging of
local or remote HBAs, which can be assigned an alias for a more
intuitive identification. In addition, automatic firmware and
driver data collection expedites root cause analysis and reduces
    time to resolution.

-- Enhanced Ease-of-Use - HBAnyware is quickly and easily deployed
as part of HBA driver installation, requiring no user
intervention. It also offers ease-of-use features like HBA
Aliasing, which allows HBAs to be tagged with user-friendly
symbolic names for management purposes. HBAnyware also offers
flexible installation and operational options for local and
    remote management paradigms.

-- A Versatile Foundation for Storage Management - HBAnyware paves
the way for upward integration into storage and server management
    solutions using industry-standard management instrumentation
(SMI-S HBA Provider) or application-level integration facilities.
HBAnyware is designed to operate as a seamless extension to third
party management solutions, such as HP Systems Insight Manager or
IBM Director, providing for active management of Emulex HBAs from
within these solutions. Leading third-party management solutions
providing higher-level functions such as topology mapping, network
monitoring, asset inventory, change management or design
verification can be used in conjunction with HBAnyware to allow
for integrated management of Emulex HBAs from a single point of
    control.
