TASER Device Subdues Armed Suspect


WASHINGTON, April 11, 2006 (PRIMEZONE) -- TASER International, Inc. (Nasdaq:TASR), a market leader in advanced electronic control devices released the following News Alert:

According to news reports from New York's Poughkeepsie Journal, City of Poughkeepsie police were called to the Stitzel Field and Eastman Terrace area around 1:30 p.m. on Monday in response to reports of people doing drugs in public. As the officers pulled up to the scene Justin Daniels, 18, attempted to flee the area where two cars and five people were spotted.

Following a short chase, officers spotted Daniels on the front porch of a house on Franklin Street and approached him. As they got closer Daniels pulled at his waistband and pulled out a gun at which point Officer Philip Rutulante deployed his TASER(R) device on Daniels and took him into custody. Daniels' weapon was later found to be a loaded 9 mm handgun.

Daniels has been charged with third-degree criminal possession of a weapon which is a felony. The other four men have been charged with first-degree loitering. Police confiscated 23 grams of cocaine and 19 bags of marijuana at the scene.
