Northrop Grumman to Supply Radio Frequency Simulator for Turkish F-16 Electronic Warfare Upgrade Program

BUFFALO, N.Y., April 13, 2006 (PRIMEZONE) -- Northrop Grumman Corporation (NYSE:NOC) has been selected to provide a radio frequency (RF) simulator system that will be used to test an improved version of a radar warning and jamming system to be deployed on Turkish Air Force F-16 fighter aircraft.

Under a contract with Microwave Electronic Systems, Inc. (MiKES), the Ankara, Turkey-based prime contractor for the Self-Protection Electronic Warfare Suite (SPEWS II) upgrade program, Northrop Grumman's Amherst Systems business unit will supply an RF simulator consisting of a multi-RF channel configuration that produces radar threat signals associated with surface-to-air missile systems and anti-aircraft artillery. Designed to enable testing and verification of the F-16's onboard self-protection electronic warfare suite, the Amherst Systems RF simulator is capable of generating thousands of simultaneous threat signals in a moving (dynamic) simulated 3-D scenario which includes ground terrain and atmospheric effects.

"We are very pleased that MiKES has entrusted us to provide our RF simulator featuring a superior design that offers lower risk to the SPEWS II program," said Jeff Palombo, general manager of Northrop Grumman's Amherst System unit. "This important win will help solidify Amherst Systems' position as the top choice for RF simulator products worldwide."

The system will be manufactured at the company's facility in Buffalo, N.Y. Northrop Grumman Amherst Systems is a world leader in electronic warfare simulation systems for laboratories, anechoic and combat-training ranges. Delivery of the RF simulator is slated for February 2007.

Amherst Systems is currently under contract to provide another RF simulator with Aselsan, also a defense-electronics manufacturer located in Ankara, Turkey. A third RF simulator from the company is currently installed at a Turkish Air Force facility.
