Grant attended school in the greater Detroit area and graduated with distinction from Wayne State University. He earned his master's degree from Central Michigan University and completed his military service in the Air Force, serving in both Britain and the Far East. He worked in the Chrysler Corporation headquarters facility in Highland Park, Mich., before relocating to California, where he accepted the position of assistant superintendent for the Port of San Diego, eventually becoming superintendent. His first published works included a short poem and a disk formula for a computer magazine. He later published two short stories. Grant's worldwide travels include the Far and Middle East, and he has lived in Scotland, England and Canada. He currently lives in San Diego.
