TASER Device Prevents Suicide

WASHINGTON, April 17, 2006 (PRIMEZONE) -- TASER International, Inc. (Nasdaq:TASR), a market leader in advanced electronic control devices, released the following News Alert:

According to news reports from the Monterey County Herald, a 30-year-old man with a three-foot-long sword attempted to kill himself just after 7 a.m. Friday morning. Residents of an apartment complex on the first block of West San Joaquin Street called Salinas police to report a man swinging a sword and yelling incoherently. On arrival, police found the man on a second-story landing with the sword.

After repeated police requests for the man to drop the sword, he continued to act abnormally. Soon after a call was placed for mental health assistance, the man drew the sword and cut his left wrist before turning the sword toward his abdomen. As the man started to motion toward a set of stairs, an officer deployed a TASER(r) device at the man from the bottom of the staircase, which forced him to the ground. The man then tried to remove the TASER device probes from his body but officers were able to stop the man by deploying a second time.

The man was taken to Natividad Medical Hospital for psychological evaluation. Salinas police stated that the use of the TASER device "most likely saved this man's life."
